TU Berlin's locomotive
From the drawing board to the track
Building our own locomotive at 1:5 scale: that is the goal of TUBahn, a student project at TU Berlin. We are an interdisciplinary team designing and building a locomotive to compete in the European Railway Challenge. Through this project, we want to put our theoretical knowledge into practice and rise to the demands of the railway industry. Since the 2026 summer semester, supported by the Chair of Rail Vehicles led by Prof. Bender, we have been building our first locomotive.
What drives us
Project goal
To compete, our locomotive has to meet numerous safety and comfort requirements. This teaches us how to deliver a complex project as a team.
Competition
In June 2027, we will compete in the European Railway Challenge in Bad Schussenried, going head-to-head with locomotives from other European universities.
Philosophy
Built at 1:5 scale, held to real-world standards. What matters in the end is what works on the track.
